● Silicon with plaster mother mold

● Silicon with fiberglass mother mold

A significant part of the whole sculpture cost is the mold. Plaster mold’s biggest advantage is its price, which makes it a good choice for single or short editions. However, plaster (which is not flexible), has its limitations. Plaster mold is a very good option for simple form without undercuts and too many details. Its disadvantage is the weight and lack of durability. This kind of form is good for forms like fruit or smooth shape. Plaster form may be used for face or human or abstract, but sometimes rubber is much better option (depends on the sculpture’s shape). Examples below show good and bad objects for plaster mold:

This sculpture contains too many details, different angles and complicated elements for plaster mold (note the hole in the back of the chair). Its form requires too much labor to keep it cost-effective. For this sculpture, rubber mold is better option.[/caption] Plaster mold inherit closed open
